Cheryl Hartup

Cheryl Hartup has thirty-three years dedicated to serving art museums and their communities. As Director of the Museo de Arte de Ponce she has launched collaborative partnerships with art museums in Puerto Rico and the United States, and established institutional goals and policies that address accessibility and equity.  She is closely involved with a major repair, reconstruction and retrofit project for the museum’s main building and exhibition galleries which suffered damages from earthquakes in 2020.

 

Before becoming Director of the Museo de Arte de Ponce she was Curator of Academic Programs and Latin American and Caribbean Art at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at University of Oregon (2016-2021), an independent curator, arts writer, and lecturer based in Ponce (2012-2016), chief curator of Muse de Arte de Ponce (2005-2012) and curator at Miami Art Museum (now Pérez Art Museum Miami) (2000-2005), the Dallas Museum of Art (1997-2000), and the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art, New York (1988-1990).
